John Henry Bott was an English immigrant who traveled West to be part of the Mormon settlement in Utah. He was apprenticed as a stone worker during the construction of the world famous Salt Lake City Temple. In 1877, John opened a monument company in Brigham City and Later in Ogden.

Upon his death in 1917, John's son, Philip, took over the business in Ogden.

Philip's son Mark eventually took care of the family business.
